Trying to battle climate change can feel like a big, daunting task. And it is. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t small things you could be doing every day that will help make a big difference.

Becoming more sustainable in your everyday life means just that; a lifestyle change. It’s tweaking your mindset to not opt for the convenient option but opt for the environmental option.

That’s why we’re sharing some small, everyday things you can do to help do your bit for the planet.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

You’ve heard it before, but we’re going to make sure you hear it again. Make proper use of those recycling bins, opt for second hand, elongate the lifespan of man made products and try to reduce your household waste.

Reduce your consumption and buy only what you need, reuse items whenever possible, and recycle materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metal. Use reusable bags, containers, water bottles, and coffee cups instead of disposable ones. Avoid single-use plastics like straws, utensils, and plastic wrap. Compost food scraps and garden waste and help to reduce landfill waste.

Turn Your Switches Off

Saving energy around the home is a simple but effective way to reduce your carbon footprint. Turn off lights, appliances, and electronics when they're not in use. Use energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs and only switch the heating on when it’s really required. These days, this will help reduce your spending, too! Win-win!

Save Water

Fix leaks in sinks and toilets. Take shorter showers and turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or washing dishes. This reduces the amount of wasted water in the home. Water usage uses more energy and it wastes clean water resources which, in turn, contributes to climate change.

Travel Sustainably

Hang up the car keys and opt for active travel or public transport. Cars are a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and if everyone continues to choose car travel over buses or trains then that’s a whole lot of carbon. Walk, bike, car share, or use public transportation whenever possible. Where financially viable, consider investing in an electric vehicle or hybrid car. Plan your errands efficiently to reduce the number of trips you need to make and put more thought into how and when you travel.

Support The Right Brands

Research companies and brands that prioritise sustainability and ethical practices. Look for products with eco-friendly certifications and labels. As a consumer you have a huge amount of power, no really! The money you spend is what makes the world go round. If you think carefully about where you spend it and where you increase demand then big companies will have to start listening to consumer trends. Think of yourself as a micro-influencer and go where the sustainable and ethical brands are.

Choose Eco-Friendly Products

Look for products made from sustainable materials like bamboo, recycled plastic, or organic cotton. Avoid products containing harmful chemicals and pollutants. Products like our phone cases that reuse biodegradable materials for functioning products offer alternative more sustainable means of achieving your goals.

Educate Yourself

Keep learning and keep teaching. The more conversations and research done on sustainable ways of living the more of a change we’re bound to make. It can be daunting and it can be overwhelming with mounds of advice and to-do lists from every angle. Stay informed about environmental issues and sustainable living practices and stay positive. While it can all seem doom and gloom, the want and the need to make a change is already a step in a happier direction.
